A hospice volunteer is someone with a big heart who chooses to give his/her time to patients and families in need at the end of life. Our volunteers provide support to our hospice patients and family members. This could consist of a variety of services such as: visiting, reading, talking, enjoying music, or just sitting with the patient and letting them know that a caring person is nearby. Volunteers can assist with shopping, running errands, household tasks or simply allowing the family members or caregivers the opportunity to take some time for themselves. To be a hospice volunteer is to provide a wonderful and very important service to people in need.

Though volunteers are not paid, they continue to play key roles in our organization and are recognized through events and awards and, mainly, by realizing that the time and care they contribute is outweighed by the emotional and spiritual rewards they receive. A hospice volunteer serves as a compassionate friend who is there merely to offer support and understand what the patient and family are going through. Our volunteer program, by offering companionship and assistance, helps to improve the quality of life for clients and families experiencing death and dying by providing emotional and social support.

Angels of the Valley Hospice offers a complete Volunteer program. Compassionate and skilled volunteers are a vital part of our mission. Our volunteers' generosity and commitment is extremely beneficial to patients, families, caregivers and even to the volunteers themselves!

Our volunteers consistently report that they experience both emotional and spiritual rewards that extend far beyond the time and care they contribute.

The minimum age requirement to be an Angels Volunteer is 16 for the office and 18 as a patient direct volunteer.

We offer extensive training and flexible hours. Working directly with our patients allows volunteers to experience a rewarding sense of fulfillment by helping patients and families through one of life's most difficult and trying times. However, some find this type of direct relationship too intense yet still want to help. In those cases, volunteers with basic clerical skills can also serve Angels of the Valley Hospice by assisting with simple tasks at the Angels office.

Angels of the Valley is also looking for volunteers who can give back to their community by knitting, quilting or sewing, If you are interested in crafting for our patients and would like to donate their time please contact our volunteer coordinator. Know that your crafts can bring comfort to a dying patient.
